Found on the Hostem playlist - this fantastic dark and bleak German outfit - Bohren Und Der Club of Gore- check out 'Sunset Mission' from 2000. The sound is pure Edward Hopper.
Some amazing graffiti around and about Shoreditch- quite well documented but a walk through to Brick lane through Fournier St. is one of my favourite things to do in London. It has the great Hawksmoor Christ Church on the corner and every house along the street is fascinating one way or the other.
Around the brand new Shoreditch High St. station is a new shopping 'container city' - all done in Dark Grey and exposed rough wooden floor and seating. containers are soooo good for recycling and are just the right size to heat and display stuff.
There is so much creativity around there at the moment and it's very inspirational

Hostem
Went to London and bimled about the east end- our favourite bit of London. Lots of new shops around Redchurch Street - Labour and Wait - relocated from Cheshire St., a great shop on the corner selling all sorts of 3D fashion objects, embroidered book covers and customised found objects. Large factory site of Aubin and Wills and most importantly 'HOSTEM'.
Truly fascinating-interiors by Jamesplumb who really need to be Googled. The little shop feels like some pared back Dutch painting - dark, monochromatic and filled with all sorts of created objects cast in plaster and cement.
Sanded old floorboards and reclaimed church furniture.
Fantastic clothes too - all mens wear- one shirt warns not to be washed in water but put in the freezer for twelve hours and the swing tag is an old alpine photo from the 50s(?) - telling about the commitment to recycle the found fabric.
Go to the www. hostem.co.uk website and you'll find loads of info and a fantastic playlist.
Image from Berlin but feels like Hostem.
